Poem 13

I saw where you lay
Alongside the brook,
Alongside the pond,
The trees and the rocks.
The fish swam around
Oblivious to see
That they had a new guest
Who would never leave.
I sat where you lay
I watched from afar
As the birds gathered food
Their songs reaching far.
The gentle sounds
Put my heart at ease
For the place where you rested
Was homely and free.
I knew you’d be safe
Nature was your guide
Your final resting place
Returned to the wild.
