Poem 10

Four paws, two front, two back, two eyes
They stare at her with quiet surprise
Not understanding the actions of
A grieving and a broken heart.

A peer over here
A nudge over there
A push on the hand that must lay near.
A longing stroke
With a caring hand
Soothes and comforts the broken woman.

Solace and love in a purr so deep
An affectionate cuddle from the substitute
Grasping tight to the living love
Awaiting the time less destitute.
